We are looking for a Capex Financial Analyst to support the maintenance and enhancement of AUC and fixed assets management reporting for Thames Water and produce the capital expenditure annual return tables for the Regulatory Accounts.

The role provides a fantastic blend of analytical expertise and practical application to the business environment; a great opportunity to make a difference through continuous improvement and regular contact with varied internal and external stakeholders.

In addition, you will support the external audit process and develop reporting improvements on Thames’ £15bn fixed asset register and associated annual capital programme expenditure of c.£1bn.

The role provides an excellent opportunity for an individual to apply their strong analytical skills using excel and finance systems to implement process improvements and drive efficiencies.

Responsibilities

Financial Controls:

  • Review and challenge asset commissioning timelines
  • Production and interrogation of key financial controls:
    • Assets overdue for commissioning
    • Commissioning Look-ahead schedule
    • Project spend profiles
    • Early warning reports
  • Prepare monthly balance sheet reconciliations and processing journal entries for manager review.
  • Monthly review of fixed asset disposals.

Management Information and Data Quality:

  • Collate management information to support decision making
  • Providing data quality assurance with respect to fixed assets master data. Verifying project settlement rules, commissioning data, purpose codes and asset classes; liaising with the business to ensure any anomalies are corrected.
  • Actively explore system improvements and efficiencies with regards to management of high volumes of data.

Financial Reporting:

  • Assisting in providing input to Group Financial Accounting team where required e.g. external audit requirements, responding to ad-hoc queries from the regulator.
  • Supporting the bi-annual and annual regulatory return process, completing key tables and presenting to both senior Management and external Audit.
  • Production of capital finance tables for the price review process; establishing timelines, assigning deliverables, managing delivery and liaising with capital programme team / strategic planning team where required.
  • Adhoc projects including annual asset valuation reports for insurance purposes

  • Self-motivation, positive results driven mind-set and with strong interpersonal/ communication skills are key behaviours for this role.
  • We are looking for a professional with strong analytical skills who is experienced and highly competent with regards to Excel and data manipulation.
  • SAP knowledge and experience are highly desirable..
  • Experience of working in a utilities/water/ regulated organisation is desirable but not essential.
  • Qualifications: Part Qualified accountant studying towards an accounting qualification (ACCA or CIMA)
