About the role:

As the Standpipe Enforcement Investigator, you will be part of a dynamic, fast paced team focused on ensuring Thames Water protects our clean water network from illegal standpipe connections. You will be working with the Illegal Connections Manager investigating instances of illegal standpipe use on our clean water network and applying the relevant enforcement legislation.

Many of our customers obtain an authorised standpipe from our supplier and connect to our network safely and legally ensuring that all usage is accounted for. This role targets those who do not obtain an authorised standpipe and comprises of field work, education and engagement to ensure compliance through a number of methods and ultimately with our legal partners pursue to prosecution.

Key areas of responsibility include:

  • Targeting areas and developers known for illegal connections.
  • Engaging with offenders to educate and ensure compliance.
  • Gather evidence ensuring CPIA, PACE and Water Industry Act governance.
  • Reporting.
  • Customer and stakeholder liaison.
  • Delivering educational presentations both internally and externally.
  • Flexible approach to working hours when required and willingness to travel where necessary within the Thames Water region.

To be successful, you will have the following skills and experience:

  • Preferably a background in enforcement.
  • Ability to deal with conflict and stay calm under pressure.
  • Evidence gathering and court file preparation experience.
  • Water Industry knowledge would be an advantage but not essential.
  • Excellent reporting and management of workloads.
  • Strong IT/Microsoft Office skills.
  • An ability to self-manage workload and time management along with being self-motivated.
  • Confident in delivering presentations to internal and external stakeholders.
