What you will be doing

This role is part of a dynamic, fast-paced team focused on ensuring we always protect public health in the delivery of a wholesome water supply. As the Drinking Water Safety Plan Scientist, you will be responsible for the completion of water treatment audits and risk assessment in accordance with Thames Water and regulatory requirements. Following the assessments, you will communicate the risk and provide technical advice in the design of relevant mitigation.

In this varied and interesting role, the day-to-day duties include:

  • Complete Drinking Water Safety Plan Audits (DWSPAs) of water treatment works to the required annual programme
  • Utilise information from site audits and other data to complete relevant risk assessments upon the company system
  • Assess all non-compliances identified, advising on appropriate remedial action and allocation of action owners
  • Maintain records to an auditable standard

The base location for the role is flexible across the Thames Water region.

We’re looking for you to:

  • Take ownership and provide water quality technical guidance and support event teams when there is a risk to quality
  • Possess strong time management skills with the ability to prioritise to balance a varied and often reactive workload
  • Have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, to clearly interact with our stakeholders
  • Be degree/HNC qualified or equivalent in a science/environmental discipline
  • Deliver an exceptional service through an enthusiastic and positive approach, taking accountability for your role while working accurately and flexibly within a busy team
  • Have significant experience in the field of drinking water quality and/or risk assessment. Knowledge of water treatment processes and a background in water quality is ideal
  • Travel to other sites, so its essential that you have a current and full driving licence
