What you will be doing

As a Shift Controller for the Waste System Operations team you are responsible for carrying out high quality monitoring and analysis of data from our Waste assets across Thames Waters estate.

Based in our Control Room in Reading you will utilise our SCADA telemetry system to maintain continuous awareness of the status of our assets for your assigned catchment area, linking this data with other contextual information (e.g. local weather status) to provide effective insight and kicking off the process to resolve issues by choosing the appropriate action.

You will be primarily focussing on responding to specific alarms within agreed SLAs and in doing so you’ll keep in regular contact with our field technicians to ensure your analysis is as accurate and insightful as it can be. The back-and-forth collaboration with our field technicians is a vital part of the role and so good communication skills are a beneficial skill for any applications to have.

On an ad-hoc basis you will be required to deliver reports and action information requests to agreed timescales to make sure that accurate telemetry data is at the heart of decisions made throughout the Operational business.

This role is a critical part of our pollution reduction strategy and as such presents an exciting opportunity for anyone who wants to apply their field expertise to help the business spot and resolve problems early.

We’re looking for you to:

  • Have experience in operating SCADA, GIS & Company Office IT systems
  • Have a strong logical focus and the ability to independently come to appropriate conclusions based on a multiple sources of data
  • Be a good communicator
  • Have operational experience working on Sewage Treatment Works and/or Sewage Pumping Stations which is beneficial but not a requirement.
  • Be a reliable and engaged individual with a willingness to learn.
