What you will be doing

Working under the direction of the Principal Engineers the role will be part of the intelligent client Thames Water needs to be able to achieve its AMP7 ambitions and beyond. Focusing on the civil or mechanical engineering discipline the role will provide the expertise needed to:

  • Get the right technical requirements from the Project Definition Briefs and maximise value by understanding risks and providing mitigation
  • Input and continuously improve Technical Asset Standards
  • Provide Design sign-off to between Asset Management and Capital Delivery as the Delivery Stream dictates
  • Provide Technical assurance during the delivery, commissioning, and hand over of Assets

Other responsibilities include:

  • Coaching and mentoring others to ensure continuous improvement.
  • Assessment of Project Briefs and associated technical information and solutions
  • Management of the activities of multi-disciplinary project teams
  • Management of the delivery of design activities to time, cost and quality through planning and forecasting resource requirements.
  • Checking and review of team outputs.

We’re looking for you to:

  • Preferably educated to degree level or equivalent in a civil or mechanical engineering discipline and possibly with a professional chartership or be working towards it
  • Have experience in process plant design and technical assurance within the water industry or with a background working on new plant equipment
  • Be able to come up with robust and safe proposals and/or solutions
  • Be adept in risk management, including risk identification, mitigation and control
  • The ability to de-risk and add value during the outline design stage is a key requirement for this position
  • Have a focus on supporting and implementing continuous improvement
  • Have experience in working with/in project teams and accountability for delivery to meet project objectives
