What you will be doing

Our overarching plan is to provide our customers with a continuous supply of safe, clean and palatable drinking water – by focusing on our five key priorities – our people, health & safety, water quality, risk & resilience, and efficiency.

You will be a technically competent person in water processes and water production operations who owns the risk management process coordination for a designated area, helping to identify risks, manage the asset planning system and promote investment through Operational Excellence and Asset Management. This will include building business cases for asset and process investment funding.

As part of the West Thames Valley technical team, you will be responsible for process compliance assurance in an area, supporting the wider production team to remain compliant with drinking water and environmental regulations.

Key to the role is collaboration and stakeholder engagement, both within and outside of Water Production

Main Accountabilities 

  • Technical Competence: obtains and maintains process competence in an area and/or across certain asset types, building a positive reputation across Water Production and other key stakeholders
  • Risk Management: owns the risk management process for an area, supporting the identification of risks (and optimisation opportunities) and then ensuring that the Asset Planning System (APS) is up-to-date, fully populated, and provides a representative view of risk for the area operations team at all times; interfacing with Operational Excellence (OpEx) in Water Production and the Asset Management team for in-AMP planning and support for future AMP investment needs
  • Optimisation: identifies and leads changes to improve asset compliance and value for money; also supporting OpEx delivering opportunities which they are leading on
  • Site Operating Manuals (SOM) and Site-Specific Procedures (SSP): maintain a good understanding of Best Operating Practices, Asset Standards, and site operations. Owns and updates SOMs and SSPs. Work with process and maintenance teams to deploy the SSPs in the field to ensure that they or the assets are fit for purpose
  • Process Assurance: provide process assurance to the production teams through the application of appropriate methods to test, review and support improvements to drinking water and environmental regulatory compliance; assisting with investigations of process non-compliances (waivers) or incidents, including disinfection incidents
  • Audits: provide technical support for DWSPAs, DWI, and Hazrev to ensure actions are translated onto APS and resolved in a timely fashion
  • Incident Management: provide incident response in and out of hours including running emergency exercises and contributing to a learning environment through updating operating procedures where required
  • Health and Safety: supporting the maintenance of statutory compliance in the area i.e. permits and H&S inspections

We’re looking for you to have:

  • Strong Process Competence – including Management of Water Production (MoWP) and Management of Disinfection and extensive practical operational experience
  • Good understanding of the risk management process and interactions with Asset Management.
  • IOSH; knowledge of Health and Safety legislation and application
  • Strong IT skills (especially Excel) and an ability to interrogate data
  • Good communicator and ability to develop effective relationships. You will demonstrate confidence to present to and to influence Leaders in the organisation at all levels
  • Excellent organisational skills, a keen eye for detail
  • A passion for driving positive behaviours throughout your region. You will be able to deliver against stretching operational targets and must be commercially astute
  • Due to the nature of the role, a full UK Driving licence is required, a car allowance will be provided
