At Thames Water, every one of our actions, big and small, matters every day. Water is essential to daily life, and that means our business is always open.

About the role

We are currently recruiting for a Trunk Sewers Technician in the East London area. This is an exciting opportunity for you to join a great team working in London’s historic network of sewers, which date back to Victorian times. Your job will be to help ensure that they are maintained effectively to meet our regulatory requirements.

We are looking for someone who may not necessarily have experience working in sewers but is happy to get involved working alongside a team in man-entry sewers.

You will be required to carry out basic maintenance of our main trunk sewer network. The role is safety-focused and will be working closely with your fellow team.

A large percentage of your work will involve planned, emergency, and defect maintenance of the trunk sewer network. Previous experience in this area would therefore be advantageous, as would basic mechanical skills/qualifications but not necessary.

Full training will be provided, and this role involves.

  • Working in confined spaces, working at heights, and lifting heavy loads.
  • Maintenance of the sewer network.
  • Use of plant and equipment.

We’re looking for you to be:

  • Physically fit and prepared to work in a challenging environment on a daily basis.
  • You must have a proactive approach to your work and demonstrate that you can work positively and effectively within a team environment.
  • Be a keen and motivated team member, able to demonstrate initiative and a flexible approach to work.
  • A valid UK driving licence is required

What’s in it for you:

Our competitive salary package includes an excellent contributory pension, 24 days holiday per year increasing to 28 with the length of service and a wider benefits scheme.

We’re proud of the positive ways of working we have adopted during the pandemic. We want to create a more flexible and dynamic environment so all our colleagues can thrive. For our office-based roles, we are moving to a hybrid approach where we will provide options around working from our offices, our operational sites, and our home dependent on role/team/individual. This will be discussed during the assessment process.

Thames Water is a unique, rewarding, and diverse place to work. If you join our team, you’ll enjoy fast-tracked career opportunities, flexible working arrangements, and unparalleled benefits. We’re also proud to be an equal opportunity employer, Stonewall Diversity Champion, and Disability Confident Leader and we are a Times Top 50 Employer for Women.
