What you will be doing

We are recruiting for a Planning Team Manager in our Water Networks Business. As the successful candidate, your role will be to provide and manage an efficient planning function to enable the delivery of maintenance on our critical water network assets. Direct management of planners and analysts to ensure Network Asset Maintenance remedial activities and programmes are planned out in a timely manner taking into consideration best practice of water network asset standards, notification, and traffic management policies, cost efficiency, H&S standards, departmental KPIs, and targets. Liaison with future patch-based operational teams, infrastructure programmes, system optimisation, and both Asset and contract management teams are required to deliver operational goals to ensure that targets are clearly understood and delivered.

You will be responsible for:

  • Develop and update relevant planning processes to achieve the highest asset availability and reduction of network risk by delivering all verification and leakage detection programmes within existing network constraints, financial efficiency and customer expectation
  • Direct management and development of planning team, while driving new operational work management initiatives in conjunction with existing asset data systems
  • Performance management of both the planning function and delivery partners by the creation of quality reporting formats to enable and identify root causes on delivery issues
  • Support company initiatives and Water Networks transformation delivery at a local level to ensure teams are aware of and understand the changes, through strong communication and frequent engagement
  • Work closely with systems operations and asset management teams to identify and mitigate operational, financial, and brand risk associated with planning delivery targets

We’re looking for you to have:

  • A degree Post-graduate level education (or equivalent)
  • Previous working experience relevant to the specific planning role within water networks
  • Knowledge of water network maintenance activities in line with best operating practices and asset standards
  • Some experience in people management and leadership
  • Good competency in appropriate company planning and data systems including SAP (both work management and supply chain), ORA, GIS, Street Manager, Pi suite, Scada, Radar, Smartchart and Office software
  • Well-developed communications skills – written and verbal
  • Ability to travel around Thames Water estate as required
