What you will be doing 

We currently have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Mechanical Technician to join our great team working in London’s historic network of Trunk sewers, which date back to the Victorian times.

This manual role will involve the day-to-day maintenance of the Victorian trunk sewer network and large strategic pumping stations in London.

As the successful candidate, your role will be to inspect, maintain, and repair all the mechanical plant located within the network in a safe efficient timely, and effective manner. ensuring our statutory obligations are met.

Key Accountabilities:

  • To carry out mechanical inspections at a variety of locations within the trunk sewer network.
  • To carry out mechanical maintenance and fault finding complying with current Standards and Regulations
  • Provide specialist technical advice where appropriate
  • Physical maintenance of the sewer network and associated pumping station assets e.g. penstock gates and pumps
  • Operation of plant and equipment
  • To comply with the Health and Safety at work regulations and Thames Water’s Health and Safety guidelines

 

We’re looking for you to have: 

  • ONC in engineering, NVQ, or C&G level 3 Mechanical engineering discipline
  • A valid driving license is essential as you will be required to support across the South London area.
  • Physically fit as you will work in confined spaces with successful completion of the appropriate training
  • Knowledge and awareness of health and safety issues are crucial
  • Be a time served apprentice with significant experience mechanical environment
  • Experience using workshop machinery
  • Be a self-motivated individual that can immerse themselves into the team around them, you need to be very disciplined and have the desire to learn from those around you and have a can-do attitude. This role can be demanding at times but very rewarding too.
  • Take Ownership of responding quickly to faults, being curious to fully understand the problem and identify the best solution to resolve it first time
  • Have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, to clearly interact with the team
  • Deliver exceptional service through  an enthusiastic and positive approach, taking accountability for your role while working accurately and flexibly within a busy team
  • Teamwork – Work well in a team to deliver the best results for the company
  • Proactive – Take the lead on recommendations and improvements around site and communicate effectively
