Who are we?

Thames Water is the UK’s largest water and wastewater company. We make a daily difference to our 15 million customers by supplying 2.6 billion litres of water through 32,000 km’s of pipes, to keep taps flowing and toilets flushing. We are an essential service and have operated throughout the Covid19 pandemic.

At Thames Water, every one of our actions, big and small, matters every day. Water is essential to daily life, and that means our business is always open.

What you’ll be doing

Thames Water has made a commitment to reduce abstractions in vulnerable catchments as part of our long-term environmental ambition, as well as work towards restoring rivers in flagship catchments, a key part of the recently launched Chalk Stream Restoration Strategy.

As a result of this commitment, we are recruiting for three new positions within the Water Asset Strategy & Planning team and this role is one of the positions which is required to co-ordinate and manage the delivery of our programme to grasp the complexity of hydrogeological, hydrological, and ecological interactions between our groundwater abstractions and vulnerable rivers, including iconic chalk catchments. A key part of this project management role will be to develop relationships and communicate with external stakeholders, including local environmental groups, to ensure their concerns are understood and addressed. You’ll represent Thames Water in meetings with external stakeholders to build awareness and maintain the reputation of the Thames Water brand.

As the Vulnerable Catchments Project Executive, you’ll lead a small project team, ensuring the timely availability of the necessary data, tools and information. You’ll engage with stakeholders to deliver outputs that enable the vulnerable and flagship catchment work to meet the programme requirements and assure the most effective environmental outcome for Thames Water and our customers.

We’re looking for you to

  • Be a graduate or equivalent with a relevant technical degree, preferably environmental or engineering and supported by a membership of a professional body
  • Have a track record in project delivery and stakeholder engagement
  • Demonstrate the ability to deliver projects to meet technical, stakeholder and commercial objectives
  • Possess the ability to analyse data and make decisions on partial information
  • Have excellent communication and strong stakeholder management skills, to interact clearly with our stakeholder
  • Use your influencing and negotiating skills, especially when working with internal and external stakeholders
  • Be adept in planning and financial management with commercial awareness
  • Be fully competent at using the appropriate company IT systems and office software

What’s in it for you?

A key role in the Water Asset Strategy & Planning team where you will have the opportunity to build relationships with external stakeholders including local environmental groups and ensure their concerns are being listened to, realised and addressed.  You’ll be part of a newly created team that has been set up to understand the impact of groundwater abstractions on vulnerable river catchments.

Our competitive salary package includes an excellent contributory pension, 26 days holiday per year increasing to 30 with the length of service and a wider benefits scheme.

We’re proud of the positive ways of working we have adopted during the pandemic. We want to create a more flexible and dynamic environment so all our colleagues can thrive. For our office-based roles, we’re moving to a hybrid approach where we’ll provide options around working from our offices, our operational sites and home dependent on role/team/individual. This will be discussed during the assessment process.

Thames Water is a unique, rewarding, and diverse place to work. If you join our team, you’ll enjoy fast-tracked career opportunities, flexible working arrangements, and unparalleled benefits. We’re also proud to be an equal opportunity employer, Stonewall Diversity Champion and Disability Confident Leader and we’re a Times Top 50 Employer for Women.
