What you will be doing

As the Trade Effluent Technologist, you will be responsible for issuing legal documentation which will allow our business customers to discharge Trade Effluent into Thames Water foul sewerage systems.  You’ll provide a company-wide focus for the issue of legal documentation to trade and industry under the provisions of the Water Industry Act 1991.

You’ll be responsible for reviewing all new trade effluent applications including completing customer site visits to evaluate the details of an application. During the consenting process, you’ll be required to understand and assess what is being discharged as well as gather information both onsite and using internal systems for process, volumetric, pollution prevention, health & safety, and billing purposes.

You will also complete existing Trade Effluent case reassessments as defined by The Urban Wastewater Directive to ensure accurate and fair charging to our customers and attend incidents and take any follow-up action such as formal sampling as evidence for prosecutions.

We’re looking for you to:

  • Take ownership of customer queries, being curious to fully appreciate the query and identify the best solution to resolve it the first time
  • Have excellent communication and social skills, to clearly interact with our customers
  • Have a Higher National Certificate in a scientific discipline or working towards or a relevant professional qualification
  • Be analytically minded and self-motivated
  • Be knowledgeable in wastewater processes and have relevant working practice
  • Deliver exceptional customer service through an enthusiastic and positive approach, taking accountability for your role while working accurately and flexibly within a busy team
  • Have a full driving licence and access to a larger vehicle as you will be required to travel through the Thames Water catchment area carrying the required PPE
