About The Role

We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Mechanical Technician to join our Waste Treatment team at Abbey Mills. As the successful candidate, your role will be to support the specialist maintenance team to carry out planned preventative maintenance, fault diagnosis, emergency breakdown repairs, plant modifications, and minor installation work.

Working both indoors and outside, with no one day being the same provides a very interesting working environment. You will be presented with unique challenges whether it’s using your expertise to diagnose a fault or working with your teammate to install replacement plant and equipment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Data collection and monitoring
  • Operation of plant and equipment, including fault finding and minor installations complying with current standards and regulations
  • To provide specialist technical advice where appropriate with up-to-date technical knowledge, and provide training support for technical trainees
  • To comply with the Health and Safety at work regulations and Thames Water’s Health and Safety guidelines.

Skills, Qualifications, and Experience Required

  • you should be a time served apprentice with a NVQ or C&G level 3 in mechanical engineering or a related mechanical/electrical qualification.
  • Experience working on related in a industry stores department or similar store/parts department with skills transferrable from another sector, would be beneficial.EG motor industry, HGV or PSV maintenance or Civil engineering maintenance.
  • Experience working on large industrial plant equipment including various pumps within the utilities industry would be beneficial. Would suit mechanical maintenance/service engineer or mechanic from any industry.
  • Knowledge and awareness of health and safety issues are essential.
  • The work will require physical fitness as you will work in within and manual handling and often physically demanding role.
  • A valid driving licence is essential and all necessary equipment such as tools are provided.

  • Be a self-motivated individual that can immerse themselves into the team around them, you need to be very disciplined and have the desire to learn from those around you, and have a can-do attitude. This role can be demanding at times but very rewarding too
  • Take Ownership of responding quickly to faults, being curious to fully understand the problem, and identifying the best solution to resolve it the first time
  • Have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, to interact with the team
  • Deliver exceptional service through an enthusiastic and positive approach, taking accountability for your role while working accurately and flexibly within a busy team
  • Teamwork – We are one team and our end goals are the same
  • Proactive – take the lead on recommendations and improvements around the site and communicate effectively
