What you’ll be doing

The Delivery Lead is a DevOps professional, essential to helping Thames Water achieve its ambition as the leading digital first utility company.

The Delivery Lead role is integral to the new product delivery methodology currently being pioneered within the technology department and will be responsible for the technology aspects of the product.

The role is a senior position responsible for leading the design, build and operational management of secure and scalable software. This role will pioneer new ways of working within the technology department and will promote and enable a shift to Rapid Delivery across the technology department.

The Delivery Lead owns the agile processes and governance within their team developing key relationships within the business and the IT organisation. They guide and coach the team on a continual basis in the use of agile practices and recommend improvements to team ways of working. They espouse experimentation and regularly review the benefits of new practices.

The delivery lead is in place to support the team and support the product owner and the team to prioritise and deliver the product backlog.

The delivery lead will coordinate the assessment of new product demand while maintaining delivery on work already in process. This role will help to coach and mentor less experienced colleagues in this way of working.

Role Responsibilities

  • Encourage product teams to practice the core principles of collaboration, prioritisation, team accountability, and visibility of progress against roadmap
  • Manage the costs within an approved budget of £1.0 – 2.5 million, including accrual, approving payments and reforecasting
  • Be accountable for adhering to the delivery governance process
  • Assist with internal and external communication, improving transparency, and disseminating information
  • Identify and remove impediments, prevent distractions that interfere with the ability of the team to deliver the product goals
  • Facilitate discussion and conflict resolution
  • Empower the teams to self-organise
  • Foster a culture of Continual Improvement within the team and wider development function
  • Adapt to change in product focus or direction including plans, schedules, and resource assignments as required throughout development to respond to emerging requirements and risks
  • Build and maintain excellent relationships with stakeholders.
  • Identify and manage risks and issues
  • Manage dependencies

 

What you should bring to the role

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in a relevant field.
  • Scrum Certified, minimum Practitioner level
  • Strong experience working in an Agile Delivery Environment working as a scrum master or equivalent.
  • Demonstrable experience of leading teams and working in Agile delivery environments and has led Agile / DevOps delivery.
  • Builds credible relationships with stakeholders and uses expertise to influence and shape Thames plans and strategies.
  • Experience managing financial budgets
  • Good skills and knowledge of digital leadership, facilitation, situational awareness, conflict resolution, continual improvement, empowerment, and increasing transparency 
  • Familiar with reporting progress to the business and IT stakeholders
  • Knowledge and/or experience with widely successful Agile techniques: User Stories, BDD, TDD, Continuous Integration, Continuous Delivery, Pairing, Automated Testing, Agile Games

As part of your role, you’ll be required to participate in a rota to provide Customer Incident Support, as requested by the Company from time to time. This may be by supporting our customers on the frontline as an Ambassador or being part of the team managing the incident as a Control Tower Lead.
