What you’ll be doing

Your working hours will be 49.5 hours per week, on: Nights and weekends - (9 on, 5 off), W/E 06:30 to 18:30, nighs 18:30-06:30. If any additional hours are worked you will be paid the current overtime rates.

The Alarm Monitoring Centre (AMC) is a hub of communication for Thames Water that continuously monitors the important sites on the estate, 24/7, 365 days a year. There are approximately 430 sites connected to the AMC. The AMC is connected to these remote sites through multi face communications to CCTV, IDS, Electronic access control to Radio pad systems, ADSL line etc and viewed in the AMC via a security management software (predominantly Genetec).

As a Security Centre Administrator you will be required to perform a number of duties including monitoring security system alarms, security incident response, management and implementing disaster recovery plan (DR), security system health checks, defect reporting and engineer engagement, documenting and escalating AMC related issues, access card production and management, supporting security system changes and migrations.

As a Security Centre Administrator you will play a proactive role in monitoring and responding to alarms, effective operation & continuous improvement of the AMC system user interface and ways of working. Ensuring an effective detection and response to crime, loss and waste on Thames Water’s sites in order to protect life, property and premises. Your key duties will include:

  • Monitoring alarms against set procedures and documentation
  • Security incident response and investigation, reviewing CCTV and systems to identify and escalate as per procedure
  • Identifying, reporting, and managing system faults in line with policy
  • Outage management: Reporting and escalating any site issues that prevents a security system from performing its primary objective
  • Engaging with Field Maintenance Engineers in resolving/testing faults by telephone
  • Maintaining Access Control Systems: Configuring and administrating the TW ID card access cards via electronic access control systems (Lenel & ComPicWeb)
  • Supporting continuous development of AMC via individual and team project work
  • Recording daily activity in the Occurrence and Maintenance Log, using Excel
  • £29,500 to £33,000 per annum depending on skills and experience
  • Based at Kemble Court, Reading
  • 49 working hours per week
  • Shift Pattern: Sat & Sun day shift: 6.30am-18:30pm, then Mon-Sun night shift: 18.30pm-06.30am, followed by 5 days off and then the cycle repeats

What you should bring to the role

  • Operational experience in a similar AMC, ARC, SOC role
  • Competent in the use of various computer software including: Microsoft 365, with intermediate Excel skills (use of Macro’s V-Look Up)
  • Knowledge and experience of using security systems (CCTV, Alarms, Access control etc) to monitor and respond to alarms
  • Demonstrate an understanding and of alert monitoring, response and escalation procedures
  • Working & communicating effectively as part of a small team across various shifts
  • Demonstrate ability to take ownership and prioritise work as required

What’s in it for you?

  • 20 normal days plus 8 bank holiday days are entering in the personal system as a total number of hours.
  • You can choose within reason and general holiday guidelines when you take any of the 28 days (i.e. that means although you get the allowance for Bank holidays you can take that day off on any day of the year).
  • As the shift is 9 on 5 off some of the Bank Holidays will fall on your rostered day off for which you will be paid single time. If the Operator is rostered to work on Bank Holiday this will attract overtime at single rate
  • Subject to approval by the line manager the Operator can book Bank holiday that falls on a rostered day as a normal days holiday.
  • In the current contracts there is no provision for the increase in Holidays with length of service.
