What you’ll be doing 

Working as part of the newly created Ventures Business Unit; the Senior Commercial Analyst will be focussed on ensuring that maximum value is achieved through our supply chain/ procurement activity.

You will be joining at a time when the entire Water industry is transforming towards a more competitive market - the biggest change since privatisation. Due to our size, location and asset base (inc. 16k acres of land, expansive network, strategic sites etc.), we have a unique opportunity to add further value over and above our regulatory commitments for our customers, communities and shareholders. The Ventures business unit has been created to consolidate and build capability to commercially create, develop and manage revenue generating agreements across the organisation.

What does this role involve?

There will be an opportunity to work on exciting projects with innovative commercial models in areas such as:

  1. Electric Vehicle charging deployment
  2. Solar PV role out – including the potential to work on the UKs largest “floatovotaic” project
  3. Utility scale battery storage
  4. Renewable heat technology
  5. Land development frameworks (inc. genuinely innovative JV/ Partnership models)
  6. Public space development inc. advertising, filming, media
  7. Fibres within Waste/Water network infrastructure

Although you will be working directly as part of the newly established Ventures team; you will be joining a deep procurement capability within Thames Water. Working within a matrix environment, the successful candidate will gain great exposure to a huge range of projects, business stakeholders, suppliers and wider business streams. The Procurement team at Thames Water is currently responsible for £1.5billion worth of spend per year, with contract values ranging between circa £100,000 through to hundreds of million pounds.

To be successful in this role we will be looking for you to deliver against strong benefits targets across this and the next period, as well as delivering value over and above just the pound sign.

What you should bring to the role?

  • Degree in a numerical field such as Engineering, Accountancy, Mathematics or equivalent.
  • Relevant experience in a previous organisitation in a similar role.
  • Previous experience in presenting business cases to senior stakeholders in an organisation.
  • This role requires a self-starter with a strong analytical capability, proven ability to work well under pressure and a curious mind set to drive improvement in process/outcomes.
  • The successful candidate must possess advanced capabilities in Excel,Power BI and Power Point.
  • You will be self-sufficient, hold strong communication/stakeholder engagement skills, and be able to prioritise/multitask to produce required deliverables efficiently. Key to this role is also the ability to isolate key issues and draw sound conclusions from various sources of information;
  • An effective Senior Commercial Analyst will already have a good understanding of a commercial business and experience with business analysis techniques and data modelling tools and not be afraid in challenging the status quo.

Outside of our daily role we can ensure our customers, communities and environment can thrive through supporting the organisation in numerous areas such as; partaking in our School Education program and providing Customer Incident Support, this may be by supporting our customers on the frontline as an Ambassador or being part of the team managing the incident as a Control Tower Lead.
