We are looking for a Pollution Compliance Specialist. We are offering between £30,442- £41,186 depending on skills and experience.
About the role:
As the Pollution Compliance Specialist, you will be responsible for providing a high level of technical analysis to support our Waste Control Room staff and field operations teams. You will use your environmental knowledge and expertise to ensure potential pollution incidents are responded to effectively, relevant environmental information is collated and communication with internal and external stakeholders is timely and accurate. In this role you will work closely with the Waste System Operations Management team to provide quality assurance across the pollution response processes and feedback on opportunities for continuous improvement. You will facilitate and promote direct feedback loops between teams across “Team Thames” to ensure individuals learn from pollution incidents. You will identify and investigate, Pollution Self-Reporting learning opportunities and share these with the team and key stakeholders.
What you will be doing:
- Working core business hours’, you will support our 24/7 Pollution Co-Ordination function by liaising with internal and external stakeholders, collating environmental information and logging our response and decision making as we respond to potential pollution incidents.
- Communicating regularly with our regulators, providing clear and concise updates on environmental incidents, and developing positive working relationships.
- Conducting regular checks and reviews of pollution response data to identify areas for improvement and learning, working closely with the management team to trial and implement any changes.
- You will attend wash-ups and learning review meetings following pollutions incidents and take learnings and apply improvements needed in the Waste Control team.
- Participate and represent Waste System Operations in companywide improvement Iniatives and projects regarding Pollutions
- Specifically work with the Operational Contact Centre and other key colleagues to improve the effectiveness of our Pollution Triage
- Act as subject matter expert for Self-Reporting process implementation and provide timely and effective analysis
- Provide support to Waste System Operations with ongoing Pollution Management training for existing staff and on with the on boarding of new starters
What should you bring to the role?
- We are seeking an engaging individual with a degree (or equivalent) in an environment related science with excellent relationship building skills.
- You will have confident presentational skills, as well as strong written, verbal technical and non-technical communication skills. Experience of working with regulators is beneficial for this role.
- Strong attention to detail, problem solving and insight as well as the ability to work well under pressure is key to the crucial role.
- Beneficial but not essential, to have experience working within an operational business environment (ideally water/waste utilities industry)
