The entry requirements for our positions are Level 1 Functional Skills English/Mathematics & Level 1 Key Skills Communications/Application of Number OR GCSE English/Maths Grade D & GCSE English/Maths Grade 3 OR Basic Skills Certificate Level 1 Adult Numeracy/Literacy OR O Level English/Maths Grade D.

Due to the nature of the role, you will need to be 18 or older and hold a full UK driving licence and live a maximum of 30-40 minute journey from your base location.

You will complete the Level 3 Water Industry Network Technician Apprenticeship. The programme will consist of 3 x 2 weeks of block release within the first 3 months at Watertrain’s facility in Swindon, Wiltshire. During the programme, there will be 1 – 2 days a month of on-the-job training and assessment at a local site.

What you will be doing

Our technicians are a vital component of what we do in our business and as a Field Water Technician Apprentice, you will be at the heart of our business. Field Water Technicians are required to work outdoors on water networks in all types of weather along with visiting customers’ homes and some offices working too. This is a great opportunity to earn a fantastic qualification whilst gaining hands-on experience.

You will be working alongside an experienced technician for the duration of your Apprenticeship and will receive ongoing support from your dedicated mentor on-site, line manager and engagement partner who will guide you and help develop your experience to excel within your career at Thames Water.

You’ll be interacting with people from all over the business during your daily work such as operatives, technicians, and stakeholders from teams across water services or within the wider business. This may include scientific teams, process treatment, engineering, maintenance, call centre, network optimisation, and contractors.

You’ll develop a good understanding and set of new skills to identify incidents and monitor water networks resolving issues. These new skills will enable you to take your next step as a Water Field Technician.
