What do you need?

A Level BBC - Must include Mathematics and preferably a Science in either Chemistry or Physics (UCAS points: 112)

  • T-level (Merit or above) in Construction: Design, Surveying And Planning. (UCAS points: 120)
  • BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma DDM in an Engineering subject area, with a minimum of merit in Mathematics and advanced Mathematics. (UCAS
  • points: 128)
  • Civil Engineering Technician level 3 apprenticeship DD (UCAS points: 96) alongside grade Pass or Distinction at EPA
  • Access to Engineering qualifications with 15 Distinctions and 30 Merits including Maths and Physical Science credit
  • Applicants must hold 5 GCSEs A-C including Maths and English or equivalent (reformed GCSEs grade 4 or above). If you already have a degree in Civil engineering programme, you are unfortunately not eligible for this programme. 

Whilst qualifications are important, we’re also looking for you to:

  • Be a logical thinker and have a passion for finding solutions.
  • Possess the drive and motivation to manage your learning and working life.
  • Be focused, well organised, have excellent time management skills and the dedication to succeed. 
  • Have great team working skills but also be able to work independently, putting customers at the heart of everything you do.
  • Be an excellent communicator and be able to converse widely with various teams.
  • Able to prioritise effectively; managing the demands of study whilst being able to contribute effectively to the engineering team
  • Preferably hold a full UK driving licence & If using your own vehicle, you will require business use on your insurance policy.

What you will be doing

We are passionate about providing a quality service to our customers. Taking a role as a Civil Engineering Degree Apprentice at Thames Water will see you be part of a great team that is building the centre of excellence for engineering in Thames Water.

As part of your apprenticeship programme, you’ll study the relevant Civil Engineering level 6 degree through London South Bank University for 1 day a week to gain the theoretical background to your degree. You will also achieve BEng (Hons) in Civil Engineering. It’s a chance to work towards a degree while gaining practical experience in a civil engineering environment, earning while you learn.

You will be part of an externally facing team that enables integration of water and waste considerations into wider, nationally significant infrastructure projects.  Day to day, you will deliver the following as part of a team:

  • Supporting the development of new engineering solutions and their associated technical requirements
  • Supporting improvements to Thames Water Technical Asset Standards
  • Contributing to Design sign-off and provide input to technical assurance activities during the delivery, commissioning, and hand over of Assets

This role is based in Reading. The starting salary will be from £20,000 with a yearly pay review and full studies funded by Thames Water. You’ll also receive 24 days holiday, pension and other benefits. Travel costs are covered for travel to and from your university studies. You will be guaranteed a role at the end of your Apprenticeship with Thames Water.
