We have an excellent opportunity for an experienced Mechanical Technician to join our Maintenance Team at the second-largest Sewage Treatment Works in the UK. 

Crossness  Sewage Treatment  Works can treat approx. 13 cubic meters per second of sewage which is divided across 3 main streams before the sludge is then processed through the onsite Thermal Hydrolysis Plant (THP) where we generate electricity. The  Sewage Treatment Works has over 6,000 assets across the works requiring various frequencies and types of maintenance, making this an extremely rewarding role.

What you’ll be doing as a Mechanical Technician:

  • Conducting scheduled planned maintenance work on mechanical equipment in compliance with company standards and procedures, such as various pumps and associated control gear, automatic valves and penstocks, flow, level and pressure measurement, pipework, chemical handling, and dosing equipment.
  • Investigating plant failures and conducting repairs.
  • Provide technical advice, referring to up-to-date technical knowledge.
  • Provide training or support for technical trainees if required.


What should you bring to the role?

  • NVQ level 3 or equivalent in Mechanical engineering qualification.
  • Physically fit as you will work in confined spaces with successful completion of the appropriate training.
  • Knowledge and awareness of health and safety issues.
  • Participation in a 24/7 out-of-hours standby rota will be required after a suitable period of training and assessment for which you will receive additional payment.
  • A valid driving license is essential.

  • Working hours: 38 hours per week.
  • Base Location: Crossness STW, East London.
