We are looking for a Performance Manager to join Thames Water on the London Tideway Tunnel team. The successful candidate will start in the coming months.

What you’ll be doing:

This is a newly created role that offers a brilliant opportunity for you to establish a career with Thames Water in frontline operations on a prestigious project. As a Performance Manager working in the London Tideway Tunnel Control team, you will assist in the control of tunnel operations, when we bring this high-profile project into service.

This unique role also includes the responsibility of overseeing the operation of the London Tideway Tunnels as well as Tideway pumping station, Abbey Mills pumping station and Greenwich pumping station which are three of our largest network assets.

Other key responsibilities include monitoring weather patterns and assessing weather forecasts to activate the different modes of operation. Also, the use of SCADA to monitor the performance of all critical pumping stations and London Tideway Tunnels. Other responsibilities include responding to specific reactive situations such as catchment flooding or impact to the environment to ensure we comply with Quality Policies and Quality Objectives.

  • Process Management: Ensuring the network achieves and maintains its required plant availability and reliability to meet quality targets at the agreed cost. Also reviewing crucial process effective factors such as weather forecasts and switch between wet weather and extreme wet weather modes based on predicted rainfall.
  • Financial Management: Owning and managing the budgetary and financial activities of the team and driving efficiencies into the overall operational budget.
  • Performance Management: Monitoring London Tideway Tunnel performance, identifying early discharges from the catchment.
  • Stakeholder Management: Ensuring exceptional service to our stakeholders and customers. Including regular liaising with Beckton and Crossness Sewage Treatment Work’s Control Rooms, Western Pumping Stations and the Waste Control Desk.
  • Health and Safety: Effectively manage the Health and Safety of the team as well as audit the Health and Safety system & processes. Including responding to alarms and ensuring appropriate timely action is taken to escalations to ensure assets are returned to business as usual.
  • Learning and Development: Continually improve the performance, standards, and capability of the team.

What you should bring to the role:

  • Knowledge and experience in wastewater production processes is desirable
  • Previous experience in managing operational staff is required, but what is essential is an appreciation of the importance of employee engagement and team structure in enabling performance
  • A strong focus on, and a good working knowledge of, health and safety is essential
  • Experience managing the operational budget with a structured and proactive approach.
  • An ability to prioritise, and organise workload is required. The successful candidate will be expected to consider operational strategy beyond just the day-to-day and will plan ahead.
  • An ability to work in a team and develop relationships across departments
  • Due to the nature of this role, full valid UK driving licence is needed
