As the Project Development Manager you will be part of the Thames Water Strategic Resource Options team, who are developing a portfolio of 5 projects, with a total capital value of between £5bn and £6bn, designed to improve resilience to drought whilst protecting the environment. Reporting to the Head of Scheme Development you will be the client lead for the South East Strategic Reservoir Option, responsible for ensuring the project is developed in accordance with the needs of our Water Resource Management Plan – as set out in the “Sponsors’ Requirements”.
What you’ll be doing as a Project Development Manager:
That role requires you to set project requirements, policies, strategies, standards, specifications, design principles, milestones and budgets, then ensuring compliance, or where necessary, seek changes or derogations – in order to deliver value for money to customers. An important part of the role will be ensuring the right outputs are delivered by the technical teams to support the needs of the Development Consent Order (DCO) and procurement processes. That will include owning the design maturity plan.
- Responsible for the delivery of the Regulators Alliance for Infrastructure Development Gateway submissions.
- You will own the project baseline (including, scope book, control schedule, cost estimate and risk assessment), and be responsible for ensuring it is updated and change controlled in accordance with the needs of the project..
- Ensuring the Technical Partner receives timely inputs from the SRO functional and Sponsor teams
- The day-to-day management of the Technical Partners, acting as the Service Manager in the NEC4 contract, being responsible for agreeing scope and ensuring TP performance - with the support of the SRO commercial team.
- You will represent the SESRO project in front of internal and external stakeholders, being an active participant in community engagement in particular
What you should bring to the role
- Educated to degree level or equivalent, and ideally with Chartership or Membership of relevant industry body
- An established and credible leader with the motivation and energy to deliver projects
- An excellent communicator and influencer comfortable working in a matrix delivery environment
- Commercially astute
- Highly competent with the use of complex IT systems and standard office software
- A UK drivers’ licence is essential as this role involves travel to various sites
Ideally you will have experience in the following
- Delivering, sponsoring and/or development of a similar major project
- Understanding and interpreting of Sponsor Requirements
- The ability to influence many stakeholders, often with competing objectives, whilst preserving and maintaining excellent, collaborative relationships is a critical part of this role
- Experience of delivering programmes and/or projects through a DCO or similar complex planning phase
- Knowledge of all stages of the project lifecycle
- Relevant engineering experience
- Project management skills with ability to multi-task and work flexibly to manage conflicting priorities
