We have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and dynamic person to join our team as a Yard Person.

As the successful candidate, you will take ownership and responsibility by overseeing the day-to-day operations of the yard whilst maintaining Health & Safety, Environmental, Water Quality and Plant standards. 

The Thames Water Inventory and Supply team are the custodians of network and critical materials, field engineering parts & tools and mobile plants which are managed through our distribution centres, strategic distribution hubs and depots. 

Operating on a 24/7- and 365-day basis, this operational area of Thames Water provides real-time distribution and equipment service to support the business.

 

Base Location: Crossness – Abbey Wood, South East London - SE2 9AQ

 

Working Pattern or hours: Monday-Friday 45 hours per week.

 

What you’ll be doing as the Yard Person

  • Engage with the front-line operational teams to ensure that the issuing and returning of stock is by Thames Water Inventory & Supply Chain process.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and tidy working environment and follow Thames Water’s Waste Management process.
  • Ensure that all plant, equipment, barriers/signing & guarding and materials are correctly stored, secured, maintained, and accounted for and readily available for issuing out to the front-line operational teams.
  • Carry out regular stock takes, inspections and audits highlighting any risks and starting resolution actions.
  • Ensure that all vehicles within the yard and depot adhere to the agreed Thames Water site safety and traffic management plan.
  • Record and report any discrepancies using the Health and Safety reporting system.
  • Attend and have active involvement in team meetings, to discuss safe working practices, work towards achieving ‘site pride’ and develop continuous improvement processes.

 

What you should bring to the role

  • Experience in stock control, depot and yard management.
  • A forklift licence and telehandler qualification.
  • Awareness of health safety and environmental legislation.
  • Organisational and planning skills.
  • Good knowledge of safe operational practice operation of vehicles and equipment and methods of loading and off-loading.
