This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who is looking to get into Estimating at Thames Water. You will be using the water industry specific cost estimating system as your main source of cost information, working on a variety of water/waste pipeline projects for the purposes of budget setting for key stakeholders.

What you will be doing as an Estimator

  • Review of scope documents for errors/inconsistencies and/or seek clarifications or additional information from relevant designer team.
  • Preparation of the cost estimate using TW costing database, and/or assist in the development of other costs from suppliers, price books and/or previous contracts/projects.
  • Assist in reviewing and tracking target cost vs final account accuracy and support a process whereby lessons are learnt for future target cost setting.
  • Assist in providing feedback loop to the wider Estimating team on database costing strengths, weakness and/or improvements from contractor returns.
  • Preparation of cost comparison reports for the purpose of demonstrating project is value for money.
  • Assist in identifying further opportunities to improve the end to end process.
  • Assist to ensure all stakeholders are actively engaged to meet agreed KPI’s.
  • Provide relevant reports and/or data support to the Estimating Support Manager and/or the wider team as and when required.
  • Assist in providing embedded carbon values to support the on-going business reporting requirements to Ofwat.

Base Location: Reading - Hybrid.

Working Pattern or hours: 36 Hours.

What you should bring to the role

  • A willingness to learn and grow.
  • You will be self-sufficient and able to prioritise/multitask to produce required deliverables efficiently.
  • You will need to be a good team player, that enjoys working as part of small team.
  • Good communication skills and able to communicate to all levels with a high attention to detail to ensure the data and information you are providing is accurate.
  • As an individual, you will need to be proactive and have good time management skills and work to tight deadlines.

  • Salary of £35,000 - £45,000 per annum depending on experience.
