We are looking for talented Managing Quantity Surveyors who have the skills and necessary experience to challenge, engage, influence and drive change.

This is an integral and exciting opportunity to be involved with the mobilisation of a new Design and Build Contract within the Wholesale Services area of Thames Water. The successful candidate will be accountable for a team of Quantity Surveyors and ensuring that they are commercially managing their Projects by the relevant Contract.

What you’ll be doing as Managing Quantity Surveyor

  •  Ensuring that Contractual Compliance is maintained on all Retail Contracts
  •  Providing Procurement Route advice and support to the Service Delivery Team
  •  Advising on Contractual duties and other tasks under assigned Contracts
  •  Management and development of Team Members including their progression towards   chartership
  • Ensuring that appropriate processes are in place and reviewed for your Delivery Area to ensure that Contractual Compliance is maintained and advising stakeholders if any non-performance is identified and corrective actions implemented as necessary
  •  Advising on the overall management and optimisation of budgets and spend
  • Providing Commercial Dispute Advice and resolving claims as required
  • Assisting the Procurement and Supplier Management Team with the implementation of robust commercial processes with their Third Party Suppliers and providing them with commercial support as and when required
  • Supporting the Head of Commercial with the management and strategic development of the Commercial function within the wider business

What you should bring to the role:

  • Extensive experience in commercially managing a portfolio of projects both pre and post-contract
  •  Excellent and recent experience in managing senior quantity surveyors
  •  Hold a degree in Quantity Surveying or equivalent
  •  Be confident in negotiation and have applied dispute resolution skills
  •  Have experience in negotiating with suppliers on all commercial and contractual matters  and applying judgment as to what constitutes an acceptable level of contractual risk and  supply resilience
  • Knowledge of water regulation (incl. OFWAT Price review methodology) would be desirable
  • Have strong Communication and Stakeholder Management skills
  • Self-starter, resilient and tenacious under pressure
  • Hold a full UK Driving license and have your transport
  • You will need to be a good team player, who enjoys working as part of a busy team
  • Chartered or detailed knowledge of the RICS
