Thames Water is looking for a Senior Quantity Surveyor to join their team and work on Capital Delivery projects. This role is crucial in ensuring value for money for projects and working with stakeholders to get the best for communities and customers.

What you’ll be doing as a Senior Quantity Surveyor

  • Monthly Cost Forecasting/Reporting: Ensure cost management against the budget, highlighting commercial issues early, including managing and reporting on contingency/risk.
  • Estimating: Manage the cost estimating process using our Estimating Team; understand Business Plan budgets, validate the project's estimated cost, and check its affordability against the Business Plan. Providing insight and advice into estimates.
  • Procurement Support: Obtain and review quotes for works and services.
  • Ensure suppliers and contractors are engaged under the most appropriate Terms & Conditions.
  • Provide commercial support during the procurement of the main contract, including undertaking commercial evaluation, benchmarking, and tender negotiation.
  • Contract Management: Contract administration includes change management, producing correspondence, monitoring/recording change, risk management, performance management, and communicating contractual lessons learned.
  • Commercial Assurance: Ensure value for money, review monthly payment applications and invoices, and make payments on time and by the Contract; identify cost audit requirements and agree on Final Accounts.
  • Governance: Ensure we always maintain financial governance and provide expert input to economic and contract governance proposals.
  • Dispute Advice: Resolving claims as required, providing commercial advice and guidance.
  • Guidance: As the Senior member of the commercial team, provide commercial advice and guidance to other team members as required.
  • Hybrid Clearwater Court - You’ll be expected to split your time between our head office in central Reading, the site, and home working.
  • 36 hours a week, Monday to Friday.
  • This role will require the successful candidate to have access to a car and driver's licence.

What should you bring to the role?

  • Being educated at a degree level and chartered in Quantity Surveying or equivalent is required for this role.
  • Be enthusiastic and can take ownership of tasks, think on their feet, devise action plans, and deliver effective solutions.
  • Hold your ground and offer reasoned advice in a fast-paced environment.
  • Knowledge of commercial and contractual contracts with an in-depth understanding of construction contracts, e.g. NEC.
  • Understand the costs and risks associated with the delivery of projects.
