This is a fantastic opportunity for a Regulatory Policy lead to join on a 12 month Maternity Fixed Term Contract, responsible for developing and delivering regulatory policy for the Strategic Resource Options Portfolio team.

The Thames Water Strategic Resource Option (SRO) programme team are responsible for the development of several projects that will improve resilience to drought and minimise interruptions to water supplies in the Southeast whilst protecting the environment.

Working in a small team, this stimulating role will be very influential in terms of how we develop long-term strategic resources options. Securing regulatory buy-in through credible policy development will be critical to progressing and delivering these schemes.

What you will be doing as Regulatory Policy Lead

  • Responsible for developing creative, informed, and robust regulatory policy for the SRO team. Ensuring that the development of the strategic solutions successfully progress through relevant regulatory hurdles and seizes opportunities to contribute and shape the regulatory agenda.   
  • Involved and managing SRO and DPC related queries through the PR24 review cycle, including draft determination"
  • Provide informed and robust regulatory policy advice for the SRO team
  • Work closely with the Commercial Strategy and Legal teams to ensure that policy development is aligned, and synergies are capitalised on.
  • Contribute to establishing regulatory relationships for SROs through providing credible, informed, and accessible policy advice. This will include with RAPID and Ofwat.
  • Communicate key findings from complex analysis to a wide range of internal and external audiences with varying understanding of the issues.
  • Manage regulatory approvals and compliance.
  • Manage interfaces and spot synergies with associated work, including the Water Resource Management Plan, PR24 and Thames’ overall strategy.

What you should bring to the role?

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent.
  • Experience of policy development in a regulatory and policy environment, ideally in the water sector.
  • Have a very good understanding of regulatory policy issues. 
  • Ability to communicate at a senior level with regulatory stakeholders.
  • Excellent policy making skills.
  • Highly developed communicating and influencing skills, both written and verbal. 
  • Ability to communicate complex issues in a simple and accessible way.
  • A good team working ethos and pro-active.
  • Be a passionate individual with strong commercial awareness and mindset, with the ability to make logical and well thought out decisions.
  • Demonstrate resilience and the ability to implement and adapt to change, creating an environment that helps people to change.
  • Able to multi-task and work flexibly to manage conflicting priorities.
