Thames Water, the UK’s largest Water and Sewerage Company, serves 15 million customers—nearly a quarter of the population. As we work to restore Thames Water’s position as an industry leader through our focused Turnaround Plan, we’re looking for talented internal or ex Thames Water colleagues with a background in project management, or a related field, to take on a key role in this transformation journey.
To drive this transformation, we’ve created a Turnaround Management Office (TMO), a dynamic team responsible for prioritising, coordinating, and governing the initiatives that matter most. What you’ll be doing as a TMO Special Projects Manager
In this role, you’ll lead high-impact strategic projects that extend beyond the usual remit of project management. You’ll work with key stakeholders to ensure that critical initiatives support our broader turnaround objectives.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading and supporting strategic projects that significantly impact the turnaround plan.
- Engaging with regulators, shareholders, and other stakeholders to address priority issues and communicate turnaround efforts.
- Collaborating with the Turnaround Communications team to develop impactful materials for regulatory and external stakeholder engagement.
- Producing high-quality, timely reports for executives and the Board to communicate progress and outcomes.
- Supporting the Head of Turnaround Delivery and Turnaround Director with team coordination and cross-functional challenges.
- Providing critical planning support and partnering with TMO Business Partners as needed.
Location: Clearwater Court, Reading (Hybrid working – 2/3 days in-office)
Work Pattern: Full Time- 36 hours per week
What you should bring to the role

To be successful, you’ll need:
- Demonstrated experience in project/programme management, especially within large, complex environments.
- Strong leadership and the ability to guide and inspire teams through change.
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, with experience engaging senior leaders and facilitating discussions across governance levels.
- Skills in problem-solving, resource optimisation, and translating strategic initiatives into actionable plans.
- Proficiency in MS Office (Excel, PowerPoint) and collaboration tools like Teams and SharePoint (Power BI experience a plus).
