The purpose of this Data Engineering role is to help build out the next evolution of the Thames Water Enterprise Data Platform (EDP). The role will collaborate with colleagues from across Thames Water, including our bespoke data product teams, to contribute to the overall goal of becoming a data-driven organisation with a centralised enterprise lakehouse at its core.

What you’ll be doing as a Data Engineer

  • You will work with the wider data hub engineering team to acquire data from Thames Water data source systems, and implement ETL/ELT data flows into the EDP by utilising the capabilities of Databricks and Azure Data Factory.
  • Engineer data by our medallion architecture framework into bronze, silver and gold levels of curation, you will then help expose this data to the analytical user community for BI system use.
  • Document source to target mappings and ensure corporate data requirements are documented and appropriate policies and procedures are in place.
  • Ownership of several data pipelines and resolution of failures.
  • Manage the investigation of corporate data requirements, documenting them according to the required standards utilising the prescribed methods and tools.

Base location - Reading/Swindon - Hybrid.

Working Pattern - 36 hours.

  • Strong experience as a Data Engineer and Azure data factory.
  • Extensive experience in data engineering.
  • fully experienced in dealing with stakeholders.
  • Proficient in data modelling tools.
  • Proven expertise in data warehousing solutions.
  • MCSA Data Engineering with Azure / M10979 Azure Fundamentals qualification is desirable.
  • Knowledge of Business analysis techniques.
