We have an exciting opportunity for a System Risk Team Manager to join our Water Systems Performance team in Thames Valley & Home Counties and work in a busy operational environment, you will be managing a highly technically skilled team, tasked with delivering timely and accurate data to frontline operators and key internal stakeholders.

You will act as the subject matter expert for the assessment of risk to clean water operational activity across our water network and wider hydraulic systems, ensuring that safety, water quality and supply to our customers is safeguarded throughout.

As the successful candidate your role will be accountable for delivering risk assessment of clean water network activity to support repair and maintenance across London and the Thames Valley & Home Counties.

The system risk assessment team assess all planned Leakage and Network Maintenance activities at Thames. In this pursuit, they carry out more than 10,000 individual risk assessments a year, across an asset base exceeding 32,000km of pipework.

  • This role is based at our Kemble Court office in Reading, Berkshire.
  • We are offering a salary up to £45,000 depending on skills and experience.
  • 36 hours per week Monday - Friday.

What you will be doing as a System Risk Team Manager

  • Manage a team customer risk analyst’s and a technical lead to provide a service for London and TV & HC.
  • Engage with Internal and external stakeholders.
  • Develop associated business strategies, targets and KPIs and lead innovative new ways of working.
  • Interrogate data to assess and develop solutions to complex problems.
  • Provide specialist technical support to the wider business in relation to Clean Water System risks.
  • Ensure Water Quality compliance is always adhered to.
  • Follow and comply with company Health & Safety procedures, auditing practices and record keeping.
  • Ensure all network operations follow current Asset Management Procedures.
  • Perform root-cause analysis and propose strategies to prevent future failures/ non-compliance
  • Mentor and develop the team and other Thames Water colleagues.
  • Maintain continuous business awareness.
  • Deliver ad-hoc reports and information requests accurately and to required timescales.
  • Support the Water System Performance team in facilitating engineering and customer led projects.

What you should bring to the role

  • The ideal candidate will hold relevant leadership experience, preferably within the utilities industry.
  • Strong communication and influencing skills are essential, due to the level of engagement with different stakeholders throughout the business.
  • The individual must possess a growth mindset, with strong analytical, problem solving & negotiating skills.
  • Teamworking is at the core of this role, as is the ability to work under pressure to meet demanding targets.
  • The successful candidate will demonstrate an extreme willingness to learn and work hard to drive their professional knowledge, skills, and behaviours.
  • Ideally a working knowledge of hydraulic systems, SCADA/ telemetry devices, GIS mapping systems, SAP & other corporate IT systems such as Microsoft Office 365.
