Thames Water is looking for a Process Control Technician to join us permanently.
You will be responsible for the day-to-day operation of Ashford Common Water Treatment Works ensuring wholesome water is available 24hrs a day for our customers. As a part of the shift control team, you will work to ensure the effective and continuous operation of the site and ensure all necessary process values and regulations are strictly adhered to.
As the Process Control Technician, you will find that no working day is the same. This will provide a very interesting, challenging, and rewarding working environment. You will also be working at one of the biggest water treatment works in the UK and will receive full training and support for the Health & Safety, technical and process requirements related to the plant.
- Location: Ashford Common, TW12 1RU.
- Hours: 38 hours per week, this role will be on a 12-hour rotating pattern, you must be able to work unsupervised for long periods.
What you will be doing as a Process Control Technician
- Remote monitoring and control of a range of water treatment processes via SCADA, such as abstraction, filtration, ozonation, and disinfection.
- Fault finding and intervention to maintain the treatment process or customer supply
- You will also have to respond to emergencies, whether this be process failures or power failures. In such circumstances, you will remain calm and follow established procedures to escalate, and then stabilise the process or isolate/identify the issue in hand.
- Water quality sampling and testing by regulatory requirements.
- Comply with operational standards, completing necessary documentation including shift logs.
- Taking responsibility for your own Health and Safety and Health and Safety on site.
- You will highlight safety observations and take action to make the area safe where possible
- You may be required to contribute to risk assessments and procedures that contribute to improving Health and Safety standards on site. This is important given that the site is governed under COMAH regulations.
- Liaise with other departments, particularly Water Quality, Maintenance, and Strategic Control, to find solutions for issues, deliver the best results for the site and ensure PRO values are met.
- Maintain own technical knowledge/Training and keep up to date with changes in procedures and asset standards.
What you should bring to the role
- We are looking for someone hands-on and practical with impeccable attention to detail and troubleshooting skills.
- As this is a shift role you will be working a 12-hour rotating shift and must be able to work unsupervised for long periods, and available to cover shifts as required by the TW shift agreement.
- Basic literacy, numeracy, and computer skills are essential as you will need to use email and operate plant computers/SCADA equipment.
- LTO desirable.
- A driving licence is desirable but not essential.
