Join us as an Electrical Engineer Apprentice and you’ll gain hands-on experience supporting the UK’s largest water and wastewater provider. Work with skilled engineers on plant design, environmental considerations, and risk identification, investigation, and mitigation, while earning a Level 6 Product Design Development in Engineering qualification to launch your long-term career. 

 

What you’ll be doing as an Electrical Engineering Apprentice: 

  • Shape Project Definition Briefs by defining key technical requirements 
  • Play a vital role in ensuring Electrical assets meet regulatory and compliance standards 
  • Gain hands-on experience in the engineering and environmental aspects of plant design and delivery 
  • Tackle real-world challenges in risk identification, investigation, and mitigation 
  • Be part of Electrical teams driving Thames Water’s AMP8 ambitions to 2030 and beyond 
  • Learn on the job with tailored training and mentorship from senior engineers 

  

Where you’ll work: 

Location: Clearwater Court Reading RG1 8DB- Hybrid 

Hours: 36-hour week over four working days plus one training day  

Start date: September 2026 

Training and qualification: You’ll study with Newbury University, a leading UK engineering training provider, with one day per week of on-campus learning. 

Qualification achieved: Level 6 Apprenticeship Standard in Product Design Development in Engineering- HNC/HND & BSc (Hons) or BEng (Hons) in Engineering 

Duration: Permanent contract with a 48 month structured programme 

  

What you should bring to the role 

  • 5 GCSE’s including Maths and English (grade 9-4 / A-C)  
  • 3 A-Levels grade C or above including a Technical or Engineering subject    
  • Travel required across Thames Water sites 
  • Good time management and communication skills 
  • Able to work well in a team and independently
