We’re looking for an Associate Management Accountant to join our Waste Finance team, supporting the Waste Networks area. This is an excellent opportunity for a part-qualified accountant to develop their skills within a large, complex organisation while gaining exposure to key financial processes and stakeholders.

What you’ll be doing as a Management Accountant

In this role, you’ll support the delivery of high-quality financial information, helping to drive insight and performance across operational cost areas. You’ll work closely with Finance Managers, FP&A teams and Business Partners, contributing to month-end close, financial analysis and continuous improvement activities.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Supporting the month-end close process, including preparing journals, accruals, prepayments and balance sheet reconciliations
  • Analysing operating expenditure (OpEx) and providing variance analysis against budget and forecast
  • Delivering clear and concise financial insights to FP&A and Business Partnering teams on key cost drivers
  • Maintaining and improving financial controls, ensuring accuracy and integrity of financial data
  • Assisting in the preparation of audit deliverables and responding to auditor queries
  • Supporting regulatory reporting activities, including cost allocation across relevant business areas
  • Working collaboratively across finance to standardise and improve processes, driving efficiency and consistency
  • Identifying and investigating anomalies in financial performance, supporting resolution and continuous improvement
  • Responding to ad hoc requests for financial analysis to support decision-making and cost visibility

Base location: Hybrid - Clearwater Court, Reading, with occasional travel to other sites as required.

Working pattern: 36 Hours, Monday to Friday

What you should bring to the role

Essential:

  • Part qualified accountant (ACCA, ACA, CIMA)
  • Previous experience in a finance or accounting role
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles and standards
  • Good analytical skills with the ability to interpret and present financial data
  • Confidence using Excel and working with large datasets
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain financial information to non-finance stakeholders
  • Ability to manage priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment

Desirable:

  • Experience with SAP and/or HFM
  • Experience in utilities or construction sectors
  • Regulatory reporting or audit experience
